Terrorists Do What Bracks Can't: Putting Melbourne On The Map

Why is it that the only times Melbourne gets news coverage under the Bracks government are when it is besieged by protestors (the S11 protests during the World Economic Forum in 2000) or threatened by international terrorists?

Here is a tip – For there next trick they are going to introduce a congestion tax on motorists around the city. You will notice a publicity campaign at the moment re using public transport to soften the public up. The Commonwealth games costs are set to blow out and are looking for extra money while trying to balance the potential damage from that move in the 2006 elections.

such issues are undoubtedly at the forefront of the news, but from my experience Melbourne still makes the international news for arty stuff as well as shit I never would have thought about were I in Australia! What I mean is I heard more about Melbourne overseas than I heard about Sydney or other cities, that is obviously relative to where I was and the media I listened to, but both were diverse so let's blow Melbourne's trumpet :-)
