Catching the fire, getting burnt: Bracks gets Religious Vilification wrong

By introducing ammendments to the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 Steve Bracks has recognised his own law is unsustainable. The Christian churches have rejected the changes, saying they are "woefully inadequate" and don't go far enough to enable free speech.
"The battle is joined," Presbyterian Church of Victoria ethics convener David Palmer said. "They've said what they are prepared to do, and it falls so far short."

And from the Bracks spokeswoman, conceding the legislation was flawed.
"No legislation exists in a vacuum. It's always being improved. We never get it right 100 per cent at the time. It was a matter of waiting for case law, and we have it now," she said.

Whinge all you like about the Bracks government. The fact is that the A.L.P runs this state and will do so forevere. The recent Upper House changes will mean the Greens will often hold the balance instead of the Nats. As it should. This site could run for decades, have fun.

I'd be willing to bet against the ALP running Victoria forever.
I'll still be tapping away at my computer for as long as it takes, in any case.
In my lifetime, another government will be elected to replace Bracks/Labor.

Funny you guys omit to mention that Dennis Napthine, Doyle and most of the Liberals supported this bill when first put up.

Perhaps the only thing worse than this legislation, if its so bad, is the performance of the Liberal Party in Victoria. What a joke! What a disgrace!

If you cant mananage 25 odd blokes (yep, mainly blokes) how on earth can you run the state.

Unfortunately, Brackswatch does not enter into comment on the machinations of internal Victorian Liberal Politics.
We're all about Bracks, as the name of the blog suggests.

Thank you for agreeing about the comment on the ALP running the state forevere (sic).
